Companionship

Pastor Allan Leitner is a dear friend with a soft heart toward God.  He’s been sharing some of his meditations.  This is one of them.

‎"For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established" Rom 1:11

This is Paul expressing God's heart to the Church at Rome. Paul had a desire to be with them to give to them and be comforted by them. There is nothing quite like being with people who are "brands plucked out of the fire"... It is a marvel really. This longing we have... I know God has it for us.

He longs to be with us... to give to us... to marvel at us both individually and as a group.  It is good to text a friend... to call or write or receive a letter. But, There is nothing quite like being with them.

Prayer is a special way to be with God... to pour out to Him and have Him pour into us. It does not have a substitute.  A multilayered deep exchange... with words. Yes. But maybe with silence... or song... or adoration... or recounting the faithfulness of the past... asking for light to be shed into the darkness of the future.  Just like human friendship can change and enrich a life... prayer changes and enriches history.
