Who Am I? It Is Finished…

Another Todd Parsons devotional:

When I am asked, or when I may ask someone the question, "Who are you?", we so often defer to what we do to give answer to our character.  But that does not really answer who we are, does it?  That can never fill the void in us of "Who am I?"  We work so hard to fill up who we are and, inside, when we put our heads on the pillow or are alone in our weakness, there is no assurance in us of who we are.  Because that can never fill that God size void...

Jesus cried out on the cross before He bowed His head and died, "It is Finished!", Jn.19:30.  One aspect of the Finished Work of Jesus Christ I have seen for myself and is now upon my heart is that, when I accepted Jesus as my Savior, the question of "Who am I?" was answered.  The work of who I am was finished... I am His. He has purchased me as His own and I am hid in Christ forever, as His...  I no longer have to work to prove who I am... IT IS FINISHED!!!

When I fail, I don’t look to the catalog of my works and how i feel.  For some reason my good works don't seem to cause me to float above what I've done wrong.  Instead, I look to the one place of the work that was completed for me and is completed in me, The Cross.  I trust Christ's Finished Work and not my work.  I make The Cross my frame of reference when I am face to face with what I have done, right or wrong.  I let them both be nullified there.  There I will see that what I do cannot change what Christ has done.  I can not make Him come down off the Cross in objection, for It Is Done...

For You, LORD, have made me glad through Your work: I will triumph in the works of Your hands. O LORD, how great are Your works! and thoughts are very deep, Ps.92:4-5.

Of So Great Love, we are, tjp
